Freelance work has felt quieter lately. When it gets quiet, the idea is to pursue the next opportunities rather than sitting tight and doing nothing. With the current market, AI, and budgets, there are fewer interesting opportunities for experienced web developers than there were a couple of years ago.
Most of my work still comes through agencies I worked with before and coworker referrals.
In the quiet days, I have been learning more about AI tools (this is the current world and future) and reaching out to companies I would like to work with. I get mostly ignored, but I get about a 10% response rate. People are busy and get a lot of spam nowadays. It’s not easy, but remember a few new collaborations can really be worth it.
I have also been spending some time improving my visibility by joining a few freelance platforms.
YunoJuno
I used YunoJuno for years. It’s still one of the better platforms for UK freelancers working with agencies in my opinion. However, these days, there are very few briefs and nothing interesting for me there.

I created a profile on Feats months ago. The platform looks promising, but I’m still trying to understand what makes it stand out.

Contra
The newest addition is Contra, looks promising, but I can really feel they want users to pay for the Pro so I will wait a bit before trying their Pro model… Every month they run challenges and these sounds fun.
